If you keep doing what you are doing…you will keep getting the same results! ![]()
![]() If you're like most players you want to be the best player you can be. If you're like most parents you want the very best for your kids. You want to give them tools to succeed! You want them to be happy, healthy and excel at whatever they choose to do. Let me ask you a question, "What kind of player do you want to be?" Have you ever thought about it? Have you ever really thought about the how good you want to be? How far you want to go? I call this YOUR vision. It involves knowing these four simple letters... S.W.O.T. You business people will relate...remember that term from Marketing Class? Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats...how does that relate to hockey? Well, people only want to do what they are good at...For example, if I have a good slapshot, guess what shot I shoot nearly every time...you guessed it. How can you get better at something if, First, you do not know what you are good at and secondly, you do not know what you need to work on?? In order to get better, you first have to be aware...of your Strengths and Weaknesses. What are you really good at? What do you really need to work on? Next comes the things you could be doing NOW to improve...Opportunities...and uncovering what you are afraid of...Threats...what is standing in your way of success and living YOUR vision? ![]() Your coach is not going to spend personal time with every player to help identify your SWOT...they cannot...they have a lot on their plate, there is not enough rink time or personal time to really spend significant time with every player. Most likely you do not have specific goals, each and every practice or game...how much do you put into your development? Are you waiting for someone else to tell you or show you how to get better? If your coaches cannot give you everything you need, you can go to hockey camps...right? People send their kids to hockey camps and spend $300, $500, or even $1000. Normally there are 30-40 kids...and rarely will they get 1-1 personal instruction. Even more rare is helping those kids determine their Strengths & Weaknesses, helping them establish personal goals, etc...but at least they have fun and get excited about hockey...for a few weeks...normally in the off season...you get the point! How much would it be worth to be able to really zero in on the exact things they need to know and give them direction? What if you could become your own coach, your own teacher. When you become aware of your SWOT, the buck stops with you...you have to take responsibility for you! IamAHockeyPlayer.com will show you how to get better every practice and every game by teaching you the power of 1%...improving just 1% every-time on the rink. It may not sound like a lot, I know, but it will change the way you think about practice, games and training! ![]() I, like most coaches/trainers am a hockey player. I grew up playing in Des Moines, Iowa. I played college hockey at Saint Mary’s of Minnesota. After school, I got drafted to play Pro Roller Hockey in St. Louis and played on the first ever USA Roller Hockey Team and won the first ever Roller Hockey World Championships...and 5 more after that! ![]() In 1996, I started USA Clinics to feed my three passions...hockey, training and kids! Since that time, we have trained over 15,000 hockey players. Many have enjoyed success from select & travel teams, to High School, College, USA National teams and Professional Hockey. Our camps and clinics continue to provide an incredible training opportunity to ice and roller hockey players nationwide.
I am very proud of USA Clinics, it is an awesome program. You should attend a camp if you ever get the chance. But I wanted to do more for the players...there is only so much you can do with a big group and we were not able to focus on some very important components... Mental Training, Emotional Training and Social Training! ![]() In order to work one-on-one and with smaller groups, I started Peter Dale Training. I created a program I call, Level One: The Awareness Cycle: Creating Your Vision, launched it from my basement and backyard and people started to come and learn about creating Long Term Positive Habits. This made them better players and students... BONUS...who knew the two were connected!
![]() I could not stop there...I bought a 5 acre farm and turned the barns into a hockey specific training center...sort of "Youngblood meets Rocky"...people came, not just locally...but from all over the country and Canada! From a parent’s perspective:
Now I am faced with a dilema...a good one, but still a challenge...How to meet the demand? I am filled up nearly every night of the week and I leave town on the weekends to teach camps. It is a blessing to be able to do what you love, however, I am running out of time. If only I could find a way to duplicate myself...IamAHockeyPlayer.com was the missing link. The very best thing next to coming to the farm to train with me. A way for players, parents and coaches, anywhere and everywhere in the world to stay connected to the very best in skills training and personal development. Now...I'm going to share the blueprint with you. But only if you're serious. ![]() Look, I have to admit, I have lifted a lot of weights and spent many many hours in the gym. Heck, I have tried every workout that was out there...anyone familiar with the Bulgarian System? Lifting 3 times per day...YIKES! All of this changed one day training with the Jr. USA Roller Hockey Team. We were in New Orleans training and preparing for the Jr. World Championships. I was a buff 185 lbs and about 17% body fat...I was strong, or though I thought... While doing some strength testing, the unthinkable happened...I was benching 325lbs and I tore my pec...I got the weight up, but knew what had happened instantly. This was my turning point. I thought to myself, "Why am I lifting such heavy weights? I want to become more lean, more flexible...I no longer needed to train just to get bigger...I needed to train for life...not just cosmetic fitness...but functional fitness! There had to be a better way! ![]() I now had a new mission...to find a window into a new world of training that just made sense! Something that could make me ripped and lean! I set out to learn everything I could about how player’s currently train and how I could make it better. Sports today are as crazy as ever. Kids seem to Specialize in one sport, year round. When I was growing up we all played every sport under the sun...football, baseball, soccer, etc... Kids are faced today with so many options. It saddens me to see how non-athletic so many kids are today because of the difference in what they do in their spare time...and the lack of role models...Plus...parents are challenged for time because of busy work and family schedules. If you want proof, just look at the five bio motor skills: Speed, Strength, Flexibility, Endurance and Coordination. So many kids never learn how to run, jump, throw and catch properly. Even more, people break down training into so many specific, isolating parts...the truth is...the body is one muscle in constant motion. Have you ever been playing hockey and had to bench press a player off you? Or have to Squat hockey players jumping on your back? Of course not...you need Functional Strength. You need to be able to lean on your edges, drop a hand while you puck protect and drive to the net...or get low and drive up through an opponent when you make an open ice hit. Imagine my surprise to learn there was so much you could do without weights and crazy expensive machines...as I write this I am 38 years old, 165 lbs and under 10% body fat. I also participate in every training session at the farm! Is it possible? You bet it is. I'm living proof. And so are many of my athletes I train. But sadly, there are so many young players who are so tight. Their hamstrings, hip flexors, glutes and lower backs are full of tension...they are an injury waiting to happen. Try this quick test...can you do the following?
If you cannot do all of the above you may not possess the five bio motor skills. Don’t worry, I can show you how to get on track! ![]() Chances are you've looked at lots of ways to get better. Maybe you have read books, looked at magazines, visited online websites, attended camps and clinics, spent hours on the rink, in your garage or basement practicing...perhaps you've even had private or small group training. Maybe you think you've "heard it before." The truth of the matter is...you may not be doing the right things. ![]() My first year in college I anxiously awaited my first test score for my psychology class. I studied for hours and did everything right...or at least I thought I did, until I got my test back. I got a "C"...are you kidding me? I went in to see my professor. I was angry, confused, surely not the way I wanted to start out my college career. What he said to me literally changed my life! After talking for a while he said to me point blank, "Maybe you don’t study right?" Huh? How many ways are there to study? He looked at my text book, full of highlighter marks and showed me a better way to take notes. He told me how much more you retain when you study in small amounts of time as opposed to cramming the night before...how was I suppose to know this? After that day I got straight A’s all the way through college and graduated with degrees in International Business, French and a Minor in Philosophy...ok I got one "B" I had a 92% and the highest grade in the class...my teacher said no one should ever get all A’s...I was so mad..but that is a story for another time. That day changed the way I look at everything. I am always looking for the best way to do EVERYTHING...train, study, read, play drums, clean, mow the lawn, shovel snow...it is endless. Hockey is a non-traditional sport. Many of our coaches today are caring parents wanting to do good things for their kids and community. I truly respect all of these people for doing something to make a difference for the kids. Unfortunately, many do not have hockey backgrounds. Many that do may be limited by old teaching paradigms. With limited time and resources, how do you learn what to do and when to do it? We are all a product of our environment. We all learn the same way: what we See, what we Hear and what we Experience. This learning process shapes who we are and what we do. What if what you have seen, heard and experienced were not the right things? What if there was a better way? How would you know? What can you do to find out? More importantly, how can you change old, negative habits into positive, long term habits? That's where a lot of people get stuck! That's where IamAHockeyPlayer.com comes into the picture. ![]() 1You need to know What to do! 2You need to Make time to do it! It sounds easy right? If it were easy, all those hockey videos, and articles would not be collecting dust. If it were easy, everyone would be on the A team, be the captain, the leading scorer, assist leader, hits leader and the plus minus leader...that is not the case now is it? It seems everyone has their place...that is the natural law. It is your choice where you want to fit in! It takes discipline, self-motivation and a strong desire to want to change and get better. It is hard work. But it is so worth it and the best part is that it never stops. You never wake up one day and say, "I am the best I can ever be. I am as fast as I want to be, as strong as I can be"...you can always get better...quicker, stronger, smarter, add power to your shot, develop a quicker release, work on better hands...that is the beauty of sports and of life. ![]() If you play any kind of hockey...ice, roller, street, dek, knee...If you are young or old, a forward, defensive player or a goalie...
